MARIAH SWEETMAN

MEET THE ARTIST

Mariah Sweetman is a proud descendant of the Ugarapul people, living and creating on Gubbi Gubbi land with her husband and dog. She loves to create with words and paint in response to connection to culture. She is a fourth generation artist.

Mariah is passionate about young people engaging with true Indigenous histories and stories.

SHERI SKELE

MEET THE ARTIST

A proud Bidjara woman and a contemporary Aboriginal artist sharing her culture, experiences and hopes for healing our history through her knowledge and story works. She began painting as a way to connect with her culture and quickly realised that it was also an incredibly meditative and spiritual experience for her.

She calls her artworks bigi nagala, which means ' I am dreaming' in Bidjara. Our land spans across South West Queensland and is home to substantial Indigenous cultural heritage, Indigenous healing places, undisturbed natural bushlands, lagoos, wildlife and ancient waterways. This is the place where the Rainbow Serpent, Mundagudda, began its movement through the landscape and formed the waterways including the sandstone gorge itself.

She feels a deep connection to her Aboriginal heritage, the earth, country and spirit, and feels privileged to be able to share her stories and culture with you through her artwork. She hopes to make her mob proud of the artworks that she creates and knowledge that she shares.
